St.
Martin de Pores New World College is located in historic
Dover, Delaware, a town of 30,000 established in 1683 as the
seat of Kent County.
Come study and learn about the people of this wonderful city,
nestled in rich green farmlands and bordered by whispering
coastal marshes. Dover is strategically located on the East
Coast of the United States, three hours South of New York
City, one and a half hours South of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania and less that two hours East of Washington,
D.C.
When you visit New World College you’ll be exposed to a city
of unique hospitality, a city characterized by grand
Georgian and Victorian homes, where horse-drawn buggies from
the nearby Amish community are common sites on the city’s
streets.
American
History at your doorstep!
Delaware
itself is a mecca for history buffs.
Located on the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware, Maryland
and Virginia Peninsula), Delaware boasts a long
multi-cultural history.
In 1609, Henry Hudson claimed the territory for the
Dutch. He found the area inhabited by the Lenni Lenape
Indians. In 1638 the Swedes established their New Sweden
Colony at Wilmington. The first permanent Dutch settlement
was also established in that year. In 1664 Delaware fell
under British rule and in 1704 Proprietor William Penn
allowed colonists to establish their own legislature.
The
city of Dover grew quickly in the 18th century,
with stately houses built around an attractive green,
personally designed by William Penn. History oozes out of every blade of grass on the
Green in Dover.
The square is a spitting image of its original
platting in 1722. During the Revolutionary War, the tract served as
meeting place for Delaware’s Continental Regiment.
They mustered in 1775 and set out on a march to join
Washington’s army in the fight for independence.
Come and visit the place where, in 1776, the
Declaration of Independence was read aloud to crowds
gathered in support of the cause of freedom.
Also in 1776, Delaware’s Caesar Rodney cast the
deciding vote for the Declaration of Independence.
