smkt•studies

smkt • studies is a new way of learning, balancing learning time with practical work experience, cultural activities as well as sports. This is a holistic program, designed to stimulate all you senses and tailor-made to your individual requirements and needs.

smkt • studies consists of five elements:

1) smkt • language training

Two hours each morning, our participants meet with language trainers for interactive conversational communication sessions. Language training includes media workshops, audio, video, and Internet learning.  Each student is interviewed individually at the start of each course and language abilities are assessed. Armed with this information, our Director of Studies then helps each individual student tailor his or her program of study.

2) smkt • research paper

With the assistance of a personal tutor who meets with the student once a week, each participant writes an individual research paper on the topic of his or her choice.Time permitting, the student and tutor contact each other one month prior to the course and define the topic. The work conducted by the student is published at the end of the course and mailed back to the participant’s home of record. These products oftentimes count as college credit and an academic publication entry on your résumé will be an invaluable asset for the rest of your lifetime. smkt • colleges strongly encourages each participant to coordinate with his or her academic advisor prior to undertaking our study experience in order to better determine what topics are more suitable for credit.

3) smkt • job training

Each afternoon the student spends several hours gaining practical work experience. Depending on the student’s language skills, the job training consists of daily visits to different companies or extended stays over days or weeks to the organization or endeavor of the person’s interest.

4) smkt • cultural immersion

Each evening the participant takes part in a lecture, cultural event, tourist visit or sporting event in order to learn more about the host country’s way of life. Learn about your host country’s history, science, technology, environment, social life, and arts. On your weekends, you’ll have ample time to travel and visit places of historic or geographic interest in your host country.

5) smkt • host family

Most smkt • colleges offer the opportunity to stay with a selected host family. This experience enables the participant to integrate even more with the culture and to practice their language skills from dawn until dusk. Some smkt • colleges offer student dormitories, focused on boosting interaction of students from different cultural backgrounds.
